Voting in this upcoming election in November of the year 2020 could quite literally be one of the most important of our lives. Sure, we hear this all of the time but this one should be given all credence and consideration. All elections are important as they provide us an opportunity to identify and address issues and policies which will prove to be most important to us over the course of the particular election cycle. Unlike other political systems, our democratic process is based on individual freedom as opposed to say, a Monarchy for example in which voting does not exist and all decisions are made by the “Monarch” or in some cases, “Tyrant” who is the head of that particular system. For Americans, it was the lack of freedoms, especially with regard to religion which led to the exodus from British rule. Coming to America and facing unknown dangers and untamed conditions was worth the risk to our brave men and women Pilgrims who forged the way for the building of our Representative Republic and current form of Government. America is not a “Democracy” and there are many valid reasons for that. It would be well worth your time to investigate and understand the historical reasoning which led to the decision to establish American Government on the representative republic model as opposed to others which had been used throughout history.
So why is history important and why should I invest time in understanding and learning about US History if not World History? History provides us a window into the past which allows us to examine such things as the culture or society of a particular time period. What did they do well, what did they do wrong, are typical questions which may come to mind. Having the ability to avoid the mistakes, especially the ones which were catastrophic, can prove to be very valuable. Understanding situations and issues which may have led to the rise and fall of important cultures and societies can help us not repeat the mistakes which led to their demise and downfall for example. Consider one of the great time periods of the past, the “Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire” for one. What conditions existed which could lead to the rise of Nazi Germany? How did Stalin accomplish what he did in Russia? What are the policies and beliefs of Karl Marx and why did they fail whenever and wherever they were tried? Why is the ability to vote such a precious thing which should not be squandered or overlooked?
Ok, so I get the importance of history and what understanding historical situations might mean but what about today? What considerations are important in our two party system, you might ask. Well, when considering a party or even a particular candidate to vote for, we must do our utmost to learn and know what this party or candidate believe and what do they stand for? In the United States of America, our two party system usually gives us platform of issues which may be adopted by the particular party as a manifest of the party beliefs. For example, one party may adopt the belief that Government should be the central entity which controls just about every aspect of one’s life, while the other might believe in individual freedom from centralized, gigantic, overly powerful Government. Ultimately, that is the case today boiled down to some of the most basic elements.
Choosing and electing candidates with integrity, morals, and of good character is critically important when considering where to place one’s vote. Which party, candidate, etc. most closely aligns with my particular belief system should always be taken into consideration? Will the party of candidate represent me, my city, my county, or my state, or country in a manner which represents my beliefs? Or, once elected, will they quickly become deaf to our voices and become part of the political machine and ruling class? These and many, many more questions should always be considered before doing our civic duty and participating in the election process.
Can’t I just listen to what the MSM, (Mainstream Media) or the leaders of my party to know all that I need to know about the candidate or party? In short, emphatically the answer is “No!”. Sadly, today we are in a particularly bad situation where politicization and weaponization is trumping everything else. Political systems can be thought of as being somewhere on a sliding scale and identified by their position to the right or left of center on a scale. Each tick to the left or right moves us closer to the extreme edges of the scale. Today, it appears that the control and policy of one of our major Political parties is moving ever further to the Left and embracing increasingly radical ideology. This has been taking place for decades and has reached the point of threatening, quite literally everything that we have known. If the Leftist who control and run not only the Democrat party but most of our Entertainment, Sports, Education, and Media. MSM now more closely resembles the state run media controlled and run in Soviet Union times of the past. MSM today is promoting a definite and obvious Leftist agenda and are doing everything within their power to assist the Left in any way. Objectivity, truth, and facts are discarded in favor of carefully crafted ideology and rhetoric favoring one political party over the other.
So, today, it is more important than ever to be informed, and understand what you are voting for. This is not about winning a popularity contest or being cool, this is about whether or not America, as we know it will survive moving forward after the upcoming election. This is deadly serious and has implications which could slide the scale into the danger zone if power is handed to the Left and democrats. Wake up America!
