Your Rights?

According to Wikipedia, which I typically do not refer to or necessarily trust, the word “Rights” is described in the following manner.

Rights are legal, social, or ethical principles of freedom or entitlement; that is, rights are the fundamental normative rules about what is allowed of people or owed to people, according to some legal system, social convention, or ethical theory.[1] Rights are of essential importance in such disciplines as law and ethics, especially theories of justice and deontology.

Rights are often considered fundamental to civilization, for they are regarded as established pillars of society and culture,[2] and the history of social conflicts can be found in the history of each right and its development. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, “rights structure the form of governments, the content of laws, and the shape of morality as it is currently perceived”.[1]

Now to be fair here, let’s see how the word “Entitlements” is described.

An entitlement is a provision made in accordance with a legal framework of a society. Typically, entitlements are based on concepts of principle (“rights“) which are themselves based in concepts of social equality or enfranchisement. Entitlement can also be informally to do with social relationships, social conventions and social norms.

It seems that everyone is caught up in the nightmare of “Rights” and the definition thereof.  Especially with regard to what the “Social Justice” proponents attempt to explain away the violence that is committed in the name of “FAIRNESS” as they know it. Fairness is a whole other topic to be explored at another time. For now, let’s stick with rights.

The largest fiasco that we are currently witnessing has to do with the “Rights” of NFL and other sports figures and media types to express their disdain for our country, it’s emblems, and our national Anthem at the beginning of games. The latest example of contempt towards our country is for these types to “Take a knee” instead of the accepted practice of placing one’s right hand over the heart area during the playing of our national anthem. From the time that Colin Kaepernick first did this, to now when we see entire teams and even some team owners doing so, “Taking a knee” has evolved into a red hot topic of debate.

For those of you who like me are completely baffled and befuddled by this, the question is really about why do they do this to begin with? The explanations that are given typically say that “taking a knee” is about police brutality, or discrimination towards blacks, and so on. But, didn’t we fight a Civil War over this, didn’t we deal with all of this in the 1960’s with the Civil Rights Movement and Dr. Martin Luther King? Despite the fact that we did in fact have a Civil War in the country over the issue of slavery, radicals and activists, politicians, and even the so called Media continue to fan the flames of divisiveness in order to continue to keep us divided as much as possible. Anyone who dare disagree with them is viciously attacked in every conceivable manner in order to beat them into silence.

The proof is what we see happening anytime a conservative attempts to go speak on a college campus such as Berkley. Despite the oft ignored fact that even conservatives have a “Right” to express their beliefs, the “Antifa and Left” go berserk and start burning and destroying buildings and cars all in the name of “Free Speech” because they have the “RIGHT” to do so. A recent poll indicates that 19% of college students, almost 1 out of 5 believe that violence is appropriate towards those of differing beliefs and opinions. That sends chills up my spine to say the least.

Who exactly has the right to determine what is right and wrong with regard to speech or anything else? Under the filter of political correctness, the radical, hard line left, and Antifa seem to think that they are the only ones who can decide or determine what is or is not acceptable with regard to speech or anything else in this country. Wow, when exactly were they anointed as the supreme purveyors of truth and justice and by whom?

Now just because some group or individual expresses the correct and acceptable worldview, does not give them supreme authority or right to condemn or punish those who do not march in rigid lockstep with them. You would never know this though if you rely on politicians or rabid state propaganda machine of the so called mainstream media. With over 92% of the coverage of President Donald Trump being negative, even if Trump cured cancer today, you would never know it from the media who would spin it into something negative to bash him about.

Why exactly do the far left desire so much to turn this country into some third world type of hypothetical Utopia that is absolutely unattainable and unrealistic? Why should a vocal minority be able to expect the majority to be subjugated to a minority belief system or worldview? I am not tuning in to ESPN to be lectured by numbskulls about their political fantasies, I would appreciate analysis and commentary about the facts of the particular game that is being played. I do not need overpaid, whiny, illiterate hollywood actors, sports figures, or any other self anointed expert telling me how I should live my life and what my worldview should be according to them. I am a free thinker, a patriot, and a Christian and will live my life as I choose and see fit. I will not conform to social chic, or march to the same drumbeat that all the lemmings of the left choose to believe is best for everyone.

That being said, I will not watch your games, your movies, or your newscasts. I will boycott you and will work feverishly to convince all within earshot to do the same that I will do. Maybe hurting you in the wallet will get your attention. The far left successfully politicized and weaponized the entire government including agencies like the IRS which are supposed to remain neutral in all regards. The intelligence community, the education system, media purveyors like cable, and hollywood, and now sports. Enough is enough! If you want to drink the cool aid and run around feeling good about yourself because you eagerly conform to whatever the left tells you is cool, be my guest. I however, will boycott you and will also work to defeat you at every turn by convincing as many others as possible to do the same that I am going to do. God bless America!

Taking a knee

While watching a rousing movie of battle and conquest along the lines of 300 or Braveheart, after charging onto the battlefield, slashing and chopping your way through the endless waves of oncoming enemy, and standing victoriously over a thoroughly defeated enemy, the losing side had to show signs of submission. Sometimes we saw the representatives of the losing side all gathered up in front of the victor, if there were any survivors, and almost always, the losers were on their knees with their heads down in dejection.

When NFL teams assemble on the field before a game and the National Anthem of the United States is played and we see them drop to their knee, that is very much what is going through my mind, absolute surrender. The explanation for “taking a knee” is that it is to show rebellion towards the country that oppressed or is oppressing black people.

See taking a knee

Taking a knee is expanding this season in the NFL and most recently, even carrying over to Baseball games. President Trump recently commented about this practice publicly which predictably caused an incredible backlash amongst the media and all factions of the left. ESPN and the media eagerly fan the flames of racism and embrace the practice of “taking a knee” despite lacking a reasonable explanation of why it is necessary or who exactly is being oppressed or by whom? Now stop and think about this, these same athletes who grew up in a country that allowed them to rise to the level of their particular sport and in doing so to become multi, multi millionaires. In many cases achieving the financial pinnacle unlike the majority of us in “flyover country” who struggle 40 hours per week for 40 years to reach a retirement that we can’t afford to live on. Where is the oppression in that scenario? Who exactly is oppressing whom?

In the past, NFL games were an important part of my recreation and enjoyment. Anticipation of seeing favorite teams lining up on the field and experiencing the joys and sadness of victory or defeat were greatly anticipated all week. Now however, it is a sickening, disgusting, representation of ignorance and disrespect to our country. There is very little doubt that the majority of Veterans feel much differently than my feelings. An image on social media recently said to the effect that if you haven’t risked coming home under a flag draped coffin, don’t you dare disrespect our country. Even before my military service there was a deep sense of patriotism towards our wonderful country and the flag and the Anthem moved me to tears.

Here is the 64 dollar question, if you hate America so much, why do you live here, why do you work for the NFL making your millions of dollars? There are plenty of professional sports available in countries around the globe that would be a better fit for people with that worldview and mindset. Why not take up soccer and move to Iran, they certainly hate America enough for just about the whole rest of the planet. Why stay in a country that you despise and have so little respect for? On top of that, why should the majority of people who appreciate the privilege of living here have to endure your childish outbursts and acts of disrespect? This writer has no trouble showing my reaction to this disgraceful disrespect and I will encourage as many others as possible to simply join me in turning you off and not watching anything anymore. Call it boycott if you wish but if you lose enough people like me who are more offended by your taking a knee than that having to endure watching it, then you will continue to hemorrhage viewers which costs you and the team owners millions of dollars. Wouldn’t it be better if you simply threw a little tantrum in the locker room in private and then take the field?
